Meet the Authors:
Lucy and Tom Riles created massive communities for parents online with Life of Mom and Life of Dad, where they celebrate and support parents worldwide. Lucy and Tom host their own interactive comedy show as well as the popular podcast Mom vs. Dad, where couples call in to discuss topics they bicker over.
Lucy and Tom are parents to four children and two dogs. In addition to being a SAHM, Lucy is a writer, creator, and storyteller and competed in season one of Amazon’s hit show The Pack. Tom is a writer and producer, and for 17 years he has been the audience warm-up act for The Ellen DeGeneres Show. When he’s not opening for Ellen, Tom is hosting events that raise money for pediatric cardiology charities, something close to Lucy and Tom’s heart since their daughter was born with and survived open-heart surgery when she was three days old. On the surface, this couple might be all fun and laughs, but at the core, Lucy and Tom are all heart.
Sometimes keeping family and relationships together and functionally sound seem like foreign concepts. Our marriages are filled with daily arguments, and seemingly after reflection, they are about the most insignificant and trifling things and circumstances. We find ourselves asking questions like, what is wrong with us, why is our marriage so different, why do other families get along, why can't we be normal, why can't we agree on anything. To make matters worse, the year 2020 has been hard on everyone, and we have been forced in many cases to spend more time with our spouses and families than we might normally do. This has put an enormous strain on so many families and marriage relationships. The negatives have been magnified and the positives seem in many cases to have vanished.
Thankfully something comes along that takes the edge off. “Mom vs Dad,” the new book by Lucy & Tom Riles is a not-so-serious-guide to the stuff we're ALL fighting about. That's right! We ALL have arguments or worse over the same insignificant, and in many cases, the silliest things. This book attempts to show us that even though spouses may have the same goals with regard to family, the road and methods of getting there may be different, and often times night and day different! Lucy and Tom take us on a lighthearted journey through their marriage pits, addressing through their experiences many topics that we can easily identify with. Each chapter poses a question that is readily relatable to our own life experiences. The chapters are filled with laughable moments that present us with the challenge to take sides. Which of the two authors do we identify with on each respective question? At the end of each chapter we are asked where we stand, “Whose side are you on...Mom or Dad?
This book serves as a guide to show couples and parents that their experiences are not abnormalities, but rather more normal than they could ever imagine. The authors have put forth a work that is just what the doctor ordered in these tough times that we find ourselves. The challenges and victories of raising children are explored throughout the pages of this book in an amusing way that lets us know that we are not alone!
