2019 October Reads Review

Robert Morris is the founding lead senior pastor of Gateway Church, a multicampus church based out of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Since it began in 2000, the church has grown to more than 71,000 active attendees. His television program is aired in over 190 countries, and his radio program, Worship & the Word with Pastor Robert, airs in more than 1,800 radio markets across America. He serves as chancellor of The King’s University and is the bestselling author of numerous books, including The Blessed Life, Frequency, Beyond Blessed, and Take the Day Off. Robert and his wife, Debbie, have been married 39 years and are blessed with one married daughter, two married sons, and nine grandchildren.

Christians around the world and especially in the United States are living their lives in a state of constant stress. The emphasis in our culture is to not trust God, but rather to trust in the resources and things of this world. Man made solutions are projected inward and onto self, far away from the answers and peace that God wants to provide. The resulting “burn out” associated with these self improvement techniques and self help efforts is so prevalent in our society that many people, Christians included, are walking around and living their lives in a state whereby they are physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually drained!

The new book, “Take the Day Off,” by Robert Morris is a real eye opener. Robert takes the reader into the Bible and shows us that God by way of His creative wisdom has given His creation the gift of REST. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that probably most people have never viewed the Sabbath as a gift. Most people have probably never given any thought as to why God when giving Moses the Ten Commandments, included REST in that BIG TEN listing. This commandment is surrounded by some heavy hitters, but God included His instruction regarding the need to REST in this list of heavyweights.

In “Take the Day Off,” Robert Morris unveils God's plan of renewal, it's benefits, and it's precious promises. Our heavenly Father has provided mankind with a gift, the gift of REST. But! Somehow man knows better, and feels the need to outthink God. Relying on his personal experiences, his self examination, his knowledge of the Word of God, and his intimate relationship with our Creator, Pastor Morris has put forth a very timely and much needed resource that may be used to battle the consequences of living a life that is too busy to enjoy the knowledge and gifts that our Creator has given us. This book provides the reader with the direction that may lead to an eye opening understanding as to why God placed REST in His Big Ten list. Are you feeling over burdened, overwhelmed, lost in a world of busyness with seemingly no way out? If this is you, I strongly encourage you to get this book. After reading “Take the Day Off” I don't think you will ever look at the Sabbath and REST the same way again!!
